London Midland’s work with communities has been acknowledged for the third time this year with a win at the Business Culture Awards.
The success at the awards this week follows railrepay winning ‘UK App of the Year’ in the travel, leisure and news category at the UK App Awards. Railrepay, which offers a streamlined, industry-wide, solution for both passengers looking to claim compensation for train delays and for train operators processing and paying claims quickly and efficiently. Railrepay was a member of the first cohort of Labs by London Midland, experiencing an inside view of various business processes at the train operating company, as well as mentorship from senior management.
The Business Culture Award, for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is third time this year that London Midland has been praised for its work with communities. The train operator has also received an International CSR award and an HR Excellence award for Best CSR Strategy. All three awards are in recognition of London Midland’s Community Rail and Your Sporting Chance programmes.
Community Rail aims to encourage local individuals and groups to take pride in their railway and stations. Successful projects have included art exhibitions, station garden transformations and improving the environment of stations through art and photography projects by the community. 40 projects have been developed in 12 months through engagement with all ages and cultures.
Your Sporting Chance serves the dual purpose of engaging colleagues at London Midland and strengthening bonds between the train operating company and the communities along its network. Employees are encouraged to nominate local junior and youth sports teams to receive up to £500 donation towards kit and equipment. Launched at the end of 2016 the company supports 50 groups across its network.
Labs by London Midland brings together some of the UK’s brightest and hottest technology start-ups to work as partners in developing solutions that improve rail journeys. Heralded as creating a new era for improving rail journeys when it launched earlier this year, Labs by London Midland is designed to bring fresh thinking to the industry.
George Robbins, founder and CEO of railrepay, said: “We are delighted to win this award and to be recognised against tough competition within the category. Our innovative approach to a currently ‘traditional’ form filling process shows that customers are willing to embrace new technology and are starting to expect train companies to offer it.
“We hope an award like this shows that a customer experience solution like railrepay can deliver for both passengers and train operating companies. We’d like to thank all of the team at Labs by London Midland; the support we received was invaluable both during and after the programme.”
London Midland’s head of Corporate Affairs, Francis Thomas, said “All of these accolades have one thing in common – they are evidence of our commitment to get closer to the communities we serve to make travel easier and simpler for everyone. Whether it is game-changing technology developed by LM Labs-partnered startups, improvements to stations or giving young people a chance to participate in sport, we have only been able to make these things happen by listening to and working in partnership with our customers, our colleagues and our communities.”
