Principal Environmental consultant

We are now seeking to strengthen and grow our Engineering team in our Birmingham office, initially working as part of our Main Works Civils High Speed 2 project team, by recruiting an experienced Environmental Consultant.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a range of experience within the Civil Engineering/Transportation/Infrastructure sectors

Main Duties:

  • Progress projects through the EIA process with emphasis on client requirements, value for money and innovation
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design delivery solutions to meet project requirements
  • Project administration including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
  • Implement systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation.
  • Develop and maintain resource allocation plans against allocated projects
  • Apply project controls and procedures to allocated projects
  • Ensure the identification of contract change from within the Environmental Impact Assessment team and work with the Change Manager to administer change in accordance with the contract requirements
  • Apply relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to all projects and check whether the environmental aspects of all projects are managed in accordance with Environmental Policy and Legislation.
  • Support Stakeholder Management teams
  • Liaise with clients and ensure their requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Liaise with and co-ordinate UK and overseas multi-disciplinary design teams
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
  • Effective management of and response to project related correspondence
  • Support procurement in the appointment of contractors as and when required
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in its development
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
  • Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
  • Effective management of and response to project related correspondence
  • Supervise and line manage team members including all consultants, Graduates and Apprentices
  • Help to Identify new markets, clients and work streams to develop the ‘Environment’ function of the business
  • Support the Bid Manager with all aspects of Tender Preparation.

Experience:

  • Degree in a relevant environmental subject
  • IEMA (MIEMA, Chartered Environmentalist) or equivalent professional engineering membership
  • Strong practical experience of working on all stages of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary environmental coordination, ideally on large infrastructure projects
  • An appreciation of a range of technical environmental matters.
  • Experience in developing scope of work for environmental studies.
  • knowledge and experience of the UK planning system and consents processes.
  • Experience of assembling Environmental Statements and reviewing specialist inputs.
