I am working with a well established design consultancy looking to expand their M&E team with a discipline lead. The Discipline Lead will adopt the role of functional line manager of the M&E discipline, as well as being deployed in the delivery of projects.
This is a key role that underpins the growth of our dynamic, high performing UK delivery organisation, blending technical and commercial awareness with strong communication and people management skills.
Main Duties:
- Client engagement and Work Winning
Identifying and growing a sustainable pipeline of opportunities in the discipline across the UK & Ireland market
Identifying multi-discipline opportunities to be followed in collaboration with other infrastructure/systems disciplines and in collaboration with the consultancy business
Client engagement to provide a deeper understanding of future needs and to position us in the UK market
- Line Management of Teams
Act as discipline figurehead, demonstrating visible leadership of staff
Management of the capability and experience of the UK discipline team
Management of the health, safety, and wellbeing of staff in the discipline
Responsible for the discipline strategy, recruitment, training and development of staff
- Technical Leadership of discipline and assurance of production
Inspire technical excellence within the discipline
Ensuring that a blend of competent staff and independent contractors (ICs) where necessary, are available for the successful delivery of single and multi-disciplinary projects.
Ensuring that technically sound solutions are produced, including all associated reporting and cost estimating, to programme and within budget
Leadership of technical safety within the function, including mastering of regulations such as CDM requirements, and industry best practice such as safe by design and health by design (prevention through engineering design).
- Training, development, and mentorship within the discipline
- Resourcing of bids and projects and utilisation/productivity of the discipline
Experience Required:
- Proven experience with leading large teams in a ‘matrix’ organisation and / or leading significant engineering teams on a major project / programme relating to the M&E discipline.
- Professional qualifications: Incorporated or Chartered engineer, or equivalent.
- Professional membership: Membership of an industry recognised professional body.
- Detailed knowledge of Network Rail Electrification & Plant Engineering & Design Production
- Detailed knowledge of Building Services Engineering & Design Production
- A sufficient level of understanding of the Engineering technical requirements of the typical Network Rail ICE or construction-based NEC-3 conditions of contract.
- Detailed understanding of the Safe by Design and Health by Design principles and also the Design responsibility and requirements for build under the Construction Design & Management regulations of 2015.
- Detailed knowledge of the applicable industry and client standards (Network Rail/ Tfl / HS2).
- Minimum 10 years’ experience of Network Rail / Equivalent M&E / E&P infrastructure design and/or construction.
- Previous M&E / E&P engineering design experience within a similar UK organisation.
- Extensive LV design and Engineering experience.
- Previous experience with High Voltage engineering / design is advantageous
- Previous experience with Traction Supply engineering / design is advantageous
