All rail industry professionals are invited to attend the free NSAR 2023 Skills Symposium. The theme is about delving into the ever-evolving skills landscape and discovering practical solutions to building rail skills.
It will include three industry case studies and a keynote speech by Mandy Hickson, the first woman to fly the Tornado GR4 on the front line, amassing over 30 years’ experience within aviation and completing three tours of duty. Since leaving the RAF, she’s retrained as a facilitator and coach in human factors. She has a wealth of experience to share on decision-making, communication, leadership, behaviour, conflict, fatigue, stress management and working in a male-dominated environment.
Joshua Brear, Fleet Competence Manager at East Midlands Railway, will discuss Competency Management and what it means for East Midlands Railway.
Lydia Fairman BEM FCIPD, Head of Capability and Skills Development at Network Rail, will update actions to address the future of skills in rail, including the thinking and approach to the whitepaper for rail, outcomes from a recent feasibility study, and more.
Rob Forde, Director of Strategy and Skills at the Global Centre of Rail Excellence (GCRE), will discuss GCRE’s purpose-built site for world-class research, testing and certification of rolling stock, infrastructure and innovative rail technologies, and the GCRE’s strategic approach to skills.
