17/3 – Call for rail companies to help with the manufacture of ventilators

The government is looking for businesses in the rail sector to support in the production and supply of ventilators and ventilator components.

The call comes as the number of people diagnosed in the coronavirus continues to rise.

As well as manufacturers, the government is looking for businesses with the following skills:

  • Design/specification
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Contract/product assembly
  • Certification/regulation/testing
  • Logistics
  • Medical training

It’s a move being backed by Elaine Clark, Chief Executive at the Rail Forum Midlands. She said: “As the country gears up to deal with the Coronavirus pandemic industry is being asked if they can help with manufacturing more ventilators.

“In the rail industry we have a number of companies who have advanced manufacturing capability and who are used to working to stringent standards.”
